Jail Facility Overview in Santa Cruz County
Santa Cruz County has four adult correctional facilities that are maintained by the Sheriff’s Office and one Juvenile Hall operated by the Probation Department. The Santa Cruz Main Jail is the largest and primary detention facility. This maximum-security jail can house up to 319 male and female inmates awaiting sentencing or serving lesser jail terms.
Meanwhile, the Blaine Street Facility is a women-only minimum-security jail with a rated capacity of 32 beds. Additionally, the Rountree Facilities comprises a medium-security jail with two housing units, each with 48 beds. This location is also home to the 64-bed Rehabilitation and Re-entry Facility, which serves a transitional purpose for soon-to-be-released inmates.
Lastly, the Probation Department’s Juvenile Hall can hold up to 42 youths, male and female. However, due to the aged main jail, limited capacity, and inadequate treatment services, the county may build a new facility.

How to Send Money to an Inmate in Santa Cruz Main Jail?
Persons may send money to incarcerated individuals in various ways, depending on whether they are funding the inmate’s trust/commissary account or communications tablet. Inmate Search by Jail Facility
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office maintains a central jail management system for the four facilities it operates: the Main Jail, Rountree Medium Security Facility, Blaine Street Facility, and the Rehabilitation and Reentry Facility. Santa Cruz County Visitation Rules and Schedules
Inmates who have been housed in the Santa Cruz County adult jail system for at least 72 hours may receive non-contact visits from persons on the inmate’s approved visitors list. Visits are on Saturdays and Sundays, but specific schedules vary by housing unit. Visitors should arrive at the facility early and register 30 minutes before the scheduled time. All persons must also keep the visitation rules, which include:
- An inmate can receive a visit from 2 adults or 1 adult and 2 minors.
- Adults must present valid government-issued photo IDs, and minors must present birth certificates.
- A parent or legal guardian must accompany minors.
- No food, drinks, personal items, or other contrabands within the visiting area
- Visits can last up to one hour
- All visitors are subject to search and monitoring
- Visitors should give at least a 24-hour notice to cancel scheduled visits

- Recently released inmates (within the past 60 days), parolees, and persons with active warrants or restraining orders are not permitted to visit.
